Talent Residence Permit for artists and people of international renown in France (2026)

France offers two talent residence permits for creative and high-profile profiles: the “talent – artistic and cultural profession” card and the “talent – national or international renown” card. Both are multi-year cards valid for up to four years.

Talent – artistic and cultural profession

Who is concerned?

Performing artists (artistes-interprètes) and authors of literary or artistic works. The card allows salaried and/or self-employed professional activity.

Conditions

  • Resources at least equal to 70% of the full-time gross minimum wage per month of stay in France, i.e. €1,306.91, of which at least 51% comes from your activity as a performer or author;
  • for a salaried activity: one or more employment contracts totalling at least three months over a twelve-month period, signed with one or more companies or establishments whose main activity is the creation or exploitation of intellectual works.

Specific documents

  • proof of resources (contracts, royalty statements, fee notes, etc.);
  • for salaried activity, proof that the cumulative duration of contracts with artistic companies reaches at least three months over twelve months;
  • documents showing that you are a performing artist or the author of a literary or artistic work.

Talent – national or international renown

Who is concerned?

People whose national or international renown is established, or who can contribute significantly and durably to France’s economic development, regional development or international standing, in a scientific, literary, artistic, intellectual, educational or sporting field. The card allows any salaried and/or self-employed activity; for salaried work, the employer needs no work authorisation and pays no employer tax.

Conditions and documents

  • Resources at least equal to the full-time gross annual minimum wage, i.e. €22,404.20;
  • any document establishing your renown in the chosen field, or your ability to contribute significantly and durably to France;
  • any document describing the nature, purpose and duration of your project in France.

How to build a convincing file

Renown is not presumed: it must be demonstrated. Press coverage, awards, publications, invitations by recognised institutions, rankings, letters of support from professionals in the field and evidence of the project’s impact in France are the elements that carry weight. The file must link this renown to a concrete project in France.

Procedure, cost and family

  • From abroad: visa at the French consulate; for a stay of one year or more, a three-month “talent” visa followed by an online application for the card on ANEF.
  • From France: online application on ANEF within two months of entry, or between four and two months before your current permit expires.
  • Cost: €350 in tax stamps if the card is granted (€50 stamp duty + €300 tax).
  • Family: spouse and minor children can obtain a “talent – family” card through the simplified “accompanying family” procedure.

Refusal

Since 30 October 2026, the prefecture’s silence is generally deemed a refusal after 90 days from a complete application (decree no. 2026-1001 of 26 October 2026; previously four months). A two-month deadline then applies to challenge the decision.
